Garda lake trout traveled up the Sarca in the spring of its second year of life and at the time of reproduction, when it could exceed one metre in length and weigh 20 kg, and was caught at the Torbole weir.
Following the alteration of the Sarca and Mincio riverbeds with dams and weirs, and the capture of water for irrigation and hydroelectric purposes, the reproduction of the Garda lake trout has been impossible for several years. Its survival today is doubtful. Many of the trout caught in the lake, although they display the "morpha lacustris" (silvery color with black X-shaped spots), do not reach the size of the lake trout of the past. These are simply ecotypes of the brown trout.
Dialect: truta de lac, truta del Garda .
